The procedure of Dermaplaning uses a surgical steel scalpel (dermaplaning tool) to lightly scrape the surface of the skin. The licensed Aesthetician holds the scalpel at a 45-degree angle and glides it along the skin to remove hair and skin cells.
This procedure revitalizes the skin by getting rid of dead skin cells and small facial hairs, generally called “peach fuzz”. By doing this it exposes younger, brighter skin, which helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles naturally. As we age there is a natural cell turnover that slows down. Therefore, removing dead cells is necessary to expose new ones to do their jobs properly. When our licensed Aestheticians provide this service, it sloughs off your damaged skin and reveals a fresher, more youthful layer underneath. You might experience some redness and discomfort as a sunburn on your face, but that will be gone in a day or two. Post treatment care tips will be provided. After the procedure the skin is smoother and ready to absorb makeup. Your foundation and powder will appear smooth.
There is no prep or recovery time from having dermaplaning done, which means you can fit it into your schedule without compromising other commitments. It is safe for all skin types and tones. If you are allergic to salicylic acid (found in Aspirin) you may want to consult your doctor. Dermaplaning is usually performed every three to four weeks.
